People of Basic Income
What Would You Do?
Generally speaking, once we get used to something, it no longer worries us.
Guaranteed income would not only establish freedom as a reality rather than a slogan, it would also establish a principle deeply rooted in Western religious and humanist tradition: man has the right to live, regardless!
The assurance of a certain minimum income for everyone, or a sort of floor below which nobody need fall even when he is unable to provide for himself, appears not only to be a wholly legitimate protection against a risk common to all, but a necessary part of the Great Society in which the individual no longer has specific claims on the members of the particular small group into which he was born.
A certain small income, sufficient for necessities, should be secured for all, whether they work or not.
I am now convinced that the simplest solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a new widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income.

Childhood, Aborted.
In the first 75 years of the 20th century, the United States was really interested in tackling problems affecting children. The federal government consulted public figures. Women spoke of children’s well-being: Eleanor Roosevelt, Lillian Wald, Grace Abbott. Problems like child [...]
Of Homelessness, Hospitals and Hurricanes
Homelessness is not just physically punishing, it destroys mental health and goes against everything society believes in.
What young men think
Yesterday I was walking out of the subway station in NYC behind two young men young enough to be my kid (if I'd had kids very young, but still). Their conversation caught my attention, because as is often the case, [...]
Well, hello again world.
So I took a hiatus from blogging. Like anything else, I think it is good to step back from blogging and make sure that what you are writing is relevant and purposeful, whether the purpose be to inform, entertain, or [...]
News wrap up, July 12
We spent a good deal of time with the news media yesterday, catching up on what the President, Romney, and our fellow New Yorkers and other public figures are doing. The prevailing stories of the day were whether or not [...]
